Josh Hartnett is a "difficult boyfriend".

The 35-year-old actor is currently dating British star Tamsin Egerton, who he is often spotted taking out on romantic dates. Analysing his outlook on relationships, Josh admits he has a clear idea of what he wants from a partner.

"That I’m a pretty difficult boyfriend," he told elle.com, when asked what all the women he has ever dated would agree on. "My expectations are a little high sometimes. I push things a bit too far. I’ve got the Icarus complex. So they’d probably say I could relax a little more."

Prior to Tamsin Josh dated many of his co-stars, such as Amber Sainsbury who he appeared alongside in 30 Days of Night and Julia Stiles who he starred in O with. Having his love life played out in public has taught the handsome star a lot.

"I don’t recommend [dating co-stars] to young actors. You can make a lot of enemies in the business that way. But when you work with somebody every day, it’s like trial dating. You develop a fantasy about them. It doesn’t always work out, does it?" he sighed.

Although Josh met Tamsin on the set of their feature Singularity, they didn't begin dating until after it had wrapped.

The star discussed what he thinks makes relationships work, as well as what can make them tough.

"Like, do I believe in unicorns?" he mused when asked if he believes in monogamy. "I believe in monogamy. It’s not easy, but it can be amazing. Your trust and bond can deepen so completely. You give everything and so you have a partner - a real partner - as opposed to someone who’s around until the next best thing comes along.

"When the question of having kids raises its head, then I think it’s time to consider [marriage]."

Lastly, Josh revealed his secret on keeping a girlfriend happy.

"Let them be on set whenever they want, with whichever co-star you’re working with. Never say the scene is too sensitive. They get very suspicious," he advised.
