Michael Douglas wants to sail around the world.

The actor has been through a lot recently, including a temporary split from wife Catherine Zeta-Jones. In addition to this, he was diagnosed with cancer in 2010.

Catherine, 44, and 69-year-old Michael have since reconciled and the star has been given a clean bill of health. Now he can concentrate on the future.

"I'd love to sail around the world with my family for a year," Michael, who has kids Dylan and Carys with Catherine and son Cameron from a previous relationship, told German TV Movie magazine.

"I want to do it on an old research vessel. But of course Catherine would prefer a yacht!

"We've been back together for a while now. Everything is wonderful."

Despite his health issues and preparing to celebrate his 70th birthday in September, Michael keeps working hard, starring in comedy Last Vegas and upcoming sci-fi film Ant-Man.

He has no plans to retire anytime soon.

"That's for people who didn't like their jobs," he dismissed the notion. "I really don't have the urge to stop working."

Michael describes his life as "wonderful" and says he's very grateful for everything. However, his illness has left its mark on him and caused him to distrust doctors.

"I knew something was wrong with me. But it took doctors nine months to figure out what it was," he said.
"But I just had to concentrate on the treatment."

Michael's next film is comedy And So It Goes, about a man who is tasked with looking after the granddaughter he didn't know he had. It co-stars Diane Keaton as his neighbour, Leah.
