Luke Wilson doesn't think anyone would want to be married to his The Skeleton Twins character.

The 42-year-old actor stars in the upcoming comedy movie as Lance, nice-guy husband to Kristen Wiig's disheartened wife Maggie, who meets with estranged twin brother Milo (Bill Hader), to contemplate their lives.

Luke was able to form an impression of Lance while playing him, and hopes the audience will share his opinion when watching the film.

“I definitely saw him as sympathetic and I think the audience will, too,” he told Backstage magazine. “And then on the flip side, you wouldn’t want to be married to him. He’s not that sharp, so you can kinda see where Maggie is coming from [with her behaviour towards him]. I think about people who get a dog just for show and then don’t really want a dog and then give it away. How crazy is that? Poor dog.”

Like his older brother Owen, 45, Luke has made a name for himself in Hollywood over the years. The siblings have worked together frequently on features such as Wes Anderson’s Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums.

He may be successful now, but that was never the star's intention initially.

“You can see how people plan a career, which I never really did,” he added. “The same with my life: people have these designs for life, and I kind of envy people like that. As I grow older, I think I’d like to do that.

“I really love reading about other actors who do have a lot of craft. And it’s fun having worked with other actors who are thoughtful and methodical. All the people I grew up loving, they all studied - but for me, I never studied. I read about [actors] and I watched them…”
