Reese Witherspoon’s date nights with husband Jim Toth normally involve “homework”.

The 38-year-old actress is mother to Ava, 15, Deacon, ten, and Tennessee, who will be two years old on September 27.

And Reese jokes most of her couple time with Jim is spent aiding their children with academic pursuits.

"Our date nights are mainly helping our kids with homework, and then, going to sleep," she laughed to Us Weekly.

Reese stars in new film Wild, an adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s memoir about a solo 1,100-mile hike.

She was exposed to nature’s rugged elements throughout the shoot and being in a pastoral setting felt refreshing.

"I definitely was strong after [filming] and it was great to be outside and experiencing nature," Reese shared. "There's no makeup in the movie and there was no looking at yourself while filming [either], all the mirrors were painted black in the trailers."

The actress’ character performed an intense sex scene in Wild.

And Reese is incredibly proud of the statement the movie makes.

“I think it's a really brave film in that … it tells women not to be embarrassed or ashamed about their bodies,” she said.

Reese was also told to carry a 75lb backpack for the film, which was screened at TIFF on Monday and will be distributed by Fox Searchlight in December.

Although the heavy bag took its toll on the star, carrying it helped her performance.

"The backpack really had to be very heavy," she said. "You could tell if I was cheating so we made it very heavy."
