Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have apparently incorporated a 5:2 element into their marriage.

The couple, who tied the knot in August 2014, raise their brood of six together as well as collaborating professionally on film projects.

Constant time together could mean tensions rise between the pair, but insiders close to the A-list couple reveal they've found a way to avoid this. Apparently, for every five days they spend together, they'll then be apart for the next 48 hours.

"Their brief periods of separation help them appreciate each other more. Because they're both creative people, they need their own space and this balance has helped transform their relationship," a source divulged to British magazine Grazia.

"It's no secret that they have a fiery relationship at times. That's why it works. Now they think giving each other space makes their time together more special."

The idea allegedly came about after spending their honeymoon shooting their new film By the Sea, which Angelina is helming as well as starring in.

Long days on set combined with the film's plotlines led Angelina to comment to The Hollywood Reporter that it felt like they'd spent their honeymoon playing two people in a terrible marriage.

"When Brad and Ange were filming together last year they discovered that big problems arose when they spent too much time together. It was a working honeymoon and the days were intense - 14- hour days on set - and coming home to be cooped up in a small rental property didn't help," the source continued.

Then in December, Angelina got chicken pox, which meant even more time away from Brad. This is said to have put their problems into perspective, and the idea to spend a few days apart was formed.
