Jude Law is extremely “proud” of how his late grandmother impacted her community.

The 42-year-old Academy Award-nominated actor’s grandma Meinwen Parry died at the age of 89 years old last month.

Jude attended her funeral on Monday, which was located at the Bangor Crematorium in Wales, and the star couldn’t be more honoured to be her descendant.

“I’m sad about what has happened but very proud of her role in the community,” he told UK newspaper the Daily Post.

About 100 people attended the funeral, including Jude’s mother Margaret, who is Meinwen’s daughter, in addition to several other family and friends.

The service lasted about 30 minutes and at the close of the ceremony, Jude mingled with loved ones to share fond memories of his grandmother.

A mourner who attended the funeral noted Meinwen was an incredibly “likeable character” who was adored throughout her Welsh neighbourhood.

“She was very active in the community in Upper Bangor but not through any formal agencies although she was a keen member of Merched y Wawr. Despite advancing years she kept a close eye on many, more vulnerable members of the local community,” the mourner disclosed.

“It was she who advised groups such as the Rotary Club or the Lions who was most in need of food parcels or other forms of help.

“She always knew who was in most need. The chapel community was her life and she attended every service and every event held at Pendref. It was lovely to see so many here at the funeral service to pay their last respects and to meet her family. Jude Law was very pleasant to speak to and I hope he enjoys the rest of his stay in North Wales.”
