Jack Black blasts ‘zombie soap opera’

Jack Black is convinced The Walking Dead has degenerated into a soap opera with cadavers over the years.

The 46-year-old actor has been a horror buff for most of his life and he is currently promoting his new picture Goosebumps, where the star plays legendary fright author R.L. Stine.

From 2010 to 2011 Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Frank Darabont, who is behind classics like The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, served as developer and producer of The Walking Dead.

And Jack is convinced since Frank was fired from the show, The Walking Dead has gone downhill.

“Frank Darabont created a masterpiece and it has kind of got pretty schlocky,” he told USA Today.

However, even though Jack is less than impressed, he and wife Tanya Haden can’t stop watching the series.

The thespian claims they are too far sucked in to suddenly cease being viewers.

“But now we cannot help it,” he explained. “The momentum has carried us. We have to know what has happened to our favourite soap opera. It’s very 'Days of Lives with Zombies.'

"Zombies are creepy. And so slow. How scared can you be? I love that show. It’s really a soap opera that me and my lady have become addicted to. It’s become such a soap opera. And it’s just a money grab. There’s no arc. It’s sort of heading to this conclusion."

The Walking Dead now has a spinoff, which is entitled Fear the Walking Dead.

Jack thinks writers could have done better when choosing what to name the new series.

"It’s such a lazy title,” Jack said of Fear the Walking Dead. “I’ve heard it’s really good, we might have to watch it. But we’ll wait until we’re out of things to watch before we get on another Walking Dead show."
