Third time out for Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in this Africa set rom com and the chemistry still works. This time the film starts with a disastrous first date for single parents Sandler and Barrymore that takes place in a Hooters. It is fantastically bad and leaves them both vowing that they want nothing more to do with each other.

A few more chance meetings only endorse those feelings on both sides “Your divorced?” says Sandlers character Jim of Barrymore’s Lauren,” I just naturally assumed your husband blew his brains out”. Fate however has other ideas and throws them together when they both take advantage of unused tickets for a fabulous free luxury trip to Africa for them and their siblings. Thrown together they discover that they aren’t actually such bad people and friendships and feelings begin to develop.

Blended is everything you’d expect and if that is what you like you will not be disappointed. There are a lot of laughs and at times tender, but not so tender that you want to throw your popcorn at the screen, it is all played out beautifully. This is a charming film with an excellent cast. The vision of Africa maybe a little patronising but it suits for the purposes of the film. Sandler and Barrymore are excellent as the single parents trying to find their way in the world and trying to be good parents. Co star Wendi McLendon-Covey is always excellent and a bit of a scene stealer here as Jen, Barrymore’s larger than life business partner. Another to look out for is Bella Thorne who plays tomboy Hilary. This is probably one of the best date movies to come out of this year so far. Enjoy it.
