Devils Tower

When Sarah is forced to leave home to escape from her abusive mother, she doesn't know where to turn. Social services give her a flat in a tower block to help her escape and rebuild her life. When misfortune befalls the block and people start dying unexpectedly, all is not well. However Sam, a homeless drug user appears on the scene and promises to help her we hope that her life will begin to look great again. They go out together and party at a friends house. Then the zombies attack!

Oh boy, it is not hard to bash a film like this. You can say it is dull, poorly written, badly acted, weakly directed and above all a waste of time and money. The film is awful and to be fair I blame the rather dull directing and the rather lukewarm ideas the writing team have come up with. It seems to me that money was lavished on this film because they have said we will get 'blood, boobs and blonds' in this feature and done just that. I love Horror films and zombie features are superb when done right, when done for what is simply exploitative reasons I get a little hostile. Then again I think I also need to highlight a few things and look at the positives.

The film is by a first time director, who isn't making Citizen Kane and isn't Christopher Nolan. Tooth wants to make films and I commend him for that. This is going to be his worst film I feel and that means the only way is up from here. The writers have ideas, they have them in abundance but they don't know which to stick with and which will bring them money and it shows.... they probably knew to stick with the old school horror movie character exploration but also knew that this wouldn't bring money... it would have made a great film. A really new film that would have been worth the time.

Now Jason Mews is fab and is still funny but is also a little out of it here. He is a great guy and an actor of comedy but as a leading man I think he would agree it is a little out there. Please play to his power and cast him as a funny guy of whit and playful charm. Roxanne however is at home here and I would say is a dream as a scream queen! She has emotion and is writ large with fear and seduction. When she wears a dress she looks hot and when she is sexy, she is sexy! This is what you want from a lead lady in horror. Strong, sexy and devilish in equal measure....she is a little weak though and we in the horror world like our females too kick ass!
