SECRET CINEMA, the pioneer of Live Cinema, announce their most ambitious event to date. Be part of the revolution, which will take place 3rd-5th September 2010 (in partnership with Windows® Phone).
Secret Cinema is looking for the adventurous, the valiant, the stalwart and the brave to venture with them on their most incredible journey yet. It continues its revolution in creating an alternative to the traditional cinema-going experience with its biggest show to date.
Revolutionizing the traditional cinematic experience, the secret venue will be revealed a few days before the event while the film is revealed upon arrival.
Since its conception in December 2007 when 400 people came together under London Bridge for Gus Van Saint’s Paranoid Park, SC has continued to push the boundaries of how audiences experience film. In June 2010, 7000 people descended upon Canary Wharf for SC’s 11th outing to discover the world of Los Angeles 2019 and to enjoy an interactive experience of Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic Blade Runner (read the review on Film-News). A vast abandoned warehouse was transformed into the brave new world with littered alleyways. Re-creating the China Town set and other parts in painstaking detail, guests were entertained by hundred of actors who played various characters from the Blade Runner movie, as well as exotic dancers, food, merchandise and reptile stalls. Furthermore, there were live electronic screens, a Future Shorts cinema tent and Chrome Hoof, a 12-piece doom house electro disco-metal phenomenon. DJ Hannah Holland provided further techno sounds. The event climaxed in a screening of Blade Runner and a live aerial recreation of the film’s famous final scene. What made the event so much fun is that a couple of days prior to the spectacle, all ticket holders were asked to arrive dressed either in futuristic neon or cyber punk clothing and to bring goggles to shield their eyes from acid rain.
SC screen all genres and eras, cult classics, golden oldies and exclusive preview screenings of eagerly anticipated upcoming releases. Surprising site-specific locations from five-star hotel car parks to working city farms are commandeered to evoke the spirit of the secret movie. Previous SC events include Alien, The Warriors, Bugsy Malone and Ghostbusters, to name but a few.
