Sean Asa is a Hollywood dancer wannabe. His crew are trying to break in too the industry but the odds are stacked firmly against them. When the others decide to quit after one more knock back, Sean goes for broke. We have dance competitions, surprises and a little romance along the way.

Lets be blunt, Step Up 5 is the next part in a series of dance related films. They do what they do very well, sending thrills and spectacular performers at you like machine gun bullets. This isn't going to be Shakespeare but what it does is give you 80 odd minutes of pure street dance joy. If you like that, well then you have found heaven. I hate when a film is judged solely on its place within a list of other films and as so this work should be taken as what it is.

The acting is on par, with eye candy everywhere. The leads are likable. They also all keep the film going with a mix of comedic one liners and physical dexterity and this helps the audience to never feel tired or bored. The story is as expected, a hero faces a trail and has to overcome. We then get an assured happy ending. A paint by numbers sequel this film isn't.

The only honest down side is that the camera work feels like it is from 70s Kung Fu films. It should be more dynamic. If you have never seen these films and don't get the reference don't worry. It just means the camera remains static. For me at times it means you find the dance scenes go on for longer than they do. All said and done, well done to the film makers.
