Let the mind games begin - The Hunger Games is a compelling, futuristic cinematic offering directed by Gary Ross, which is set in a post-apocalyptic world.

It depicts a family’s survival against the Capitol, the main seat of corrupt power in a thriving dictatorship that reigns over 12 impoverished districts.

Jennifer Lawrence plays the renegade, leading heroine, Katniss Everdeen whose strong female characterisation sways between a youthful vulnerability and resilient determination to survive the odds. In a human lottery, 24 candidates are selected from each district to pit their wits against each other in a ‘death match’ tournament. Mind games, intense momentum and a melting pot of eccentric characters including President Coriolanus Snow played by the talented Donald Sutherland, the charismatic Haymitch Abernathy played by Woody Harrelson and Lenny Kravitz as Cinna enforce the rich performances on this superb, ruthless version of the gladiator games.
