Rose Byrne and Oprah Winfrey have condemned the perpetrators of the Bondi Beach shooting.
Two men opened fire on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia on Sunday afternoon, killing 16 people and injuring more than 40 others, making it the country's worst mass shooting in almost 30 years.
The gunmen appeared to target Jewish people attending a Hanukkah event and police officials are treating the attack as an act of terrorism.
Following the tragic news, Sydney-born actress Rose took to Instagram Stories to express her sadness for the victims and their families.
"I am so horrified by the terrorist attack that took place on Bondi Beach in my beautiful hometown of Sydney. My heart goes out to the victims, their families and the Jewish community," she wrote. "Australia is one of the safest places in the world to practice any religion and am shocked, heartbroken and horrified by this unspeakable news."
Meanwhile, Oprah - who visited Australia for a speaking tour earlier this month - noted she was heartbroken to learn of the mass shooting.
"I just spent the last two weeks in Australia, walking Bondi just days ago feeling the openness and ease that lives there," the media mogul posted. "It's hard to reconcile that sense of peace with the terror of last night. My heart breaks for the victims, their families and the loved ones, and all you Aussies."
In addition, Sacha Baron Cohen called on people around the world to "stop the hate".
"It could be your family, your child. No one should die because of their faith. May their memory be a blessing - and a light toward tolerance and peace," the British actor and comedian declared.
Elsewhere, Sacha's ex-wife, Isla Fisher, and Natalie Portman, both re-shared a post featuring an image of a menorah with one candle lit.
"Our light will not be dimmed. Tonight we light for Bondi," the post reads.
And in a statement, Gal Gadot noted that her "heart is shattered" and the "grief is immense".
"This darkness deliberately struck at a sacred moment of community and hope. It is easy to feel defeated. But let us be clear: our strength is not in despair, but in the light we fiercely choose to create in this terrible void," the Israeli actress wrote. "We must honor the victims not with silence, but by demanding a world where every life is safe, and by choosing empathy and unity above all else."
In addition, Disney officials have cancelled Monday evening's premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash in Sydney "out of deep respect for the victims" of the tragedy.
