Longtime Bondi Beach resident Hugh Jackman is "heartbroken" over the recent terror attack in his hometown.
Sixteen people were killed and dozens more were injured when two gunmen opened fire on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia on Sunday afternoon, while Jewish people were attending a Hanukkah celebration.
During a virtual appearance on Fox 5 DC on Monday, Jackman sadly reflected on his country's worst mass shooting in almost 30 years.
"It's just devastating, it's my home, so it hits close. This is something we are seeing all over the world, my heart is breaking about it," he said, sitting next to his Song Sung Blue co-star Kate Hudson.
"I just feel for particular(ly) those families, those closely affected and just the community that's, you know, it's my community."
Jackman admitted that it broke his heart to read about the incident in Bondi just hours after hearing about the shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday. Two students died and nine others were injured during the attack.
"I went to bed reading about Brown University and woke up reading about Bondi. I just feel heartbroken," he added.
The Greatest Showman actor, who splits his time between Australia and America, owns a penthouse apartment in Bondi Beach. He is often photographed swimming in the ocean or running along the beach whenever he's in his home country.
Jackman follows in the footsteps of his fellow Australians in speaking out about the tragedy.
Rose Byrne previously wrote on Instagram, "I am so horrified by the terrorist attack that took place on Bondi Beach in my beautiful hometown of Sydney. My heart goes out to the victims, their families and the Jewish community. Australia is one of the safest places in the world to practice any religion and am shocked, heartbroken and horrified by this unspeakable news."
Meanwhile, Rebel Wilson called the shooting "an absolute tragedy that is the most un-Australian thing to have happen", and pop star Troye Sivan added, "This is not who we are as Australians."
