Tessa Thompson is to star in A Separation.
The 42-year-old actress will produce and lead the cast of the adaptation of Katie Kitamura's best-selling book that is being directed by Jonas Carpignano.
A Separation tells the story of a woman who reluctantly travels from London to an isolated area of southern Greece in an attempt to find her estranged husband who has gone missing.
Full of suspense and quiet turmoil, the book is about the mysteries of intimacy and slippery grief that comes in the wake of a marriage ending.
As well as Tessa, Riva Marker will produce the film for Linden Productions along with Kishori Rajan of Viva Maude and Christos V. Konstantakopoulous of Faliro House.
The flick reunites Thompson with Linden after their collaboration on the upcoming thriller Is God Is.
The producers told Deadline in a joint statement: "In A Separation, Kitamura unflinchingly explores the complexities of class, race and fidelity with her trademark elegance and fearlessness. We could not be more thrilled to collaborate on such an evocative story."
Kitamura added: "Jonas and Tessa are two of the boldest and most original artists working today. I feel very lucky to be part of this extraordinary collaboration, and to be working with such an exceptional team of producers to bring this novel onto the big screen."
Meanwhile, Tessa recently played coy about the prospect of returning as Valkyrie in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday.
When The Playlist asked the Hedda star if she would be returning for the picture, she said: "Oh, [I’m] not able to confirm anything."
Thompson first played Valkyrie in the 2017 movie Thor: Ragnarok and said she would "for sure" reprise the role again if the opportunity presented itself.
She said: "I just love the character so much that I would always be interested."
Despite refusing to confirm or deny her possible involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, Thompson had nothing but praise for the MCU.
The His and Hers star said: "I think this is the coolest thing about hanging out inside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: all the incredible people that you get to play with, both the incredible craftspeople that create these worlds, all the amazing directors that they invite into these spaces, and all of the incredible talent.
"And also, I think there are so many tonal spaces you can go to inside of a Marvel movie."
Avengers: Doomsday will star Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Sebastian Stan (James ‘Bucky’ Barnes), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), David Harbour (Red Guardian) and Lewis Pullman (Sentry).
The movie will also see the return of X-Men legends Sir Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Sir Ian McKellen (Magneto), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Channing Tatum (Gambit), James Marsden (Cyclops), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique).
Finally, Fantastic Four stars Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (The Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing) round out the cast.
