Jamie Lee Curtis' Murder, She Wrote reboot has been delayed until 2028.

The 67-year-old actress is due to portray iconic crime writer and amateur sleuth Jessica Fletcher - who was played by Dame Angela Lansbury in the legendary TV series - in the hotly-anticipated motion picture, but Universal Pictures have pushed the release date back from December 22, 2027 to February 4, 2028.

Universal haven't given an official reason for the change, but, according to Deadline, the studio believes a February release is a "better date for the playability of this type of movie instead of Christmas".

For now, there aren't any other major movie titles scheduled to drop on February 4, 2028.

However, Christmas 2027 will feature the likes of Disney/Marvel Studios' Avengers: Secret Wars, Lionsgate’s The Housemaid’s Secret, New Line’s The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Warner Bros’ untitled Nancy Meyers movie and Sony Animation's Buds in theatres.

Murder, She Wrote's initial release date was only announced late last month.

In the iconic TV show - which ran for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996 - Fletcher solved crimes in the fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine, but plot details for Curtis' upcoming motion picture are yet to be revealed.

It is known that Jason Moore will direct the reboot, and the screenplay has been penned by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo.

Amy Pascal, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will produce the movie.

Curtis recently confirmed she was stepping into Lansbury's shoes, and she is "very excited" about the role.

She told Entertainment Tonight: "Oh, it's ... happening. We're a minute away, but yeah, [I'm] very excited. Very excited.

"But I'm tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I'll get to enjoy that work."

Bosses at NBC had previously planned to revive the show with Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer, but reports from early 2014 suggested the project had been canned.

In September 2023, it was revealed a Murder, She Wrote movie was being adapted for the big screen before the Hollywood strikes.

Schuker Blum told Collider at the time: "We'll tell you one thing that hasn't been reported yet, which is we have written a theatrical feature film version of 'Murder, She Wrote' for Universal, and we're really excited."

Angelo added: "It’s with Pascal Pictures in Pascal and Universal, and we're very excited to bring [Jessica Fletcher to the big screen]."
