Megan Lawless has been cast in new romantic comedy Crushed.
The 26-year-old actress, who starred as Sarah in Curry Barker's horror hit Obsession, is stepping into a very different genre for Stephanie Donnelly's feature directorial debut.
As reported by Deadline, Lawless has landed the lead role of Joss in upcoming movie Crushed.
Described as a romantic at heart, the character never seems to have her crushes reciprocated, and so she sets out to find the perfect person for her.
Filming is currently underway in Chicago.
Earlier this month, it was revealed Lawless had been cast alongside WWE champion Liv Morgan (real name Gionna Daddio) in upcoming psychological thriller Ping.
The movie will is written and helmed by Richie Gordon, and follows "an aspiring creative director who lands a remote dream job, but is forced to choose between her sanity and a boss she can never mute".
Gordon told Deadline: "Ping examines the promises of modern work that can push us to work harder and longer, sometimes at the expense of ourselves – it asks those of us living through burnout culture: what is enough?
“I was blown away by how deeply that resonated with Megan and the rest of the cast, and am incredibly fortunate to have some of the best crew in the business to bring it to life.
"I’m in awe of the talent behind this film and I can’t wait for the world to see it.”
Lawless' early roles including the likes of MTV teen drama Finding Carter, as well as appearances in the likes of Table 19, The Hate U Give and Hulu crime drama The Girl From Plainville.
The actress previously admitted she would "love to do some comedy" as well as her horror roles.
She told Vogue Singapore: "It’s hard for me to answer this because ultimately, I’d love to do everything at once, and I really want to try out more genres on both TV and film.
"I’d love to be the romantic lead of some sort of romance, and I actually would love to do some comedy. I love doing comedy."
However, Lawless noted she tries not to "live in the future too much".
She added: "As an artist, I just want to do work that makes me proud and represents me authentically, and influence those around me or whoever I can in a positive way.”
