(Cover) - EN Movies - Ben Whishaw says he is the complete opposite of his technologically brilliant Skyfall character.
The British actor takes on the role of gadget expert Q in the latest instalment of the James Bond franchise.
Unlike the MI6 nerd, the 32-year-old says he is “hopeless” when it comes to any form of technology.
“It was such fun for me to play an expert in an area where I’m completely not an expert,” he explained to British newspaper The Telegraph.
“I’m really hopeless with technology - I don’t even have a computer. But I had to reel off all this technological information as if it were second nature. It’s great to play someone who has this mysterious understanding of things that are so complex. I also really enjoyed his relationship with Bond. I’m very excited about future films and where we will take that.”
Due to the iconic nature of the spy films, Ben was faced with a long list of actors who had taken on the role of Q before him.
However, the star says he didn’t look to predecessors such as John Cleese when preparing for the part.
“You can’t just start from scratch — you have to tick the boxes that people want ticked. Q has to be a bit snippy, tetchy and exasperated by Bond. But I felt very strongly from the script that this Q had to be something different from the past,” he explained.
“This is a new beginning. Casting someone younger in the role was the first clear indication that the producers wanted to shift the character and his connection with Bond.”
Daniel Craig takes on the role of 007 for the third time.
Ben enjoyed the experience of working with Daniel on the film.
“He’s incredibly intense and focused and very, very tough on himself. He’s an absolute perfectionist. We’re very fortunate to have him as Bond,” he gushed.
