Claire Danes thinks she would be a “lousy" stay-at-home mother.
The 33-year-old actress and her husband Hugh Dancy welcomed their first son, Cyrus, into the world in December.
Before giving birth, Claire discussed her parenting plans with the American edition of Elle magazine.
"I've always wanted to have kids, but I'm glad I didn't until now. When I was thinking about [working and being a mother] originally, I was really nervous about it," she explained. "I think I would make a lousy stay-at-home mom. It just wouldn't suit me. I feel so fortunate, in that I've had this arrow-straight focus that I wanted to act."
Claire and Hugh met while they were shooting the movie Evening in 2006 and got married three years later. She has no special tips for how they keep their relationship going, insisting it works simply because they both want it to.
"Hugh was just the right partner for me. I got very, very lucky," she said. "There's only so much credit you can take when it just sort of works, you know' And obviously we work hard at maintaining our relationship - that is central to both our lives - but at the same time, it's just this kind of ease that I can't really account for."
Claire has achieved praise for her portrayal of bi-polar anti-terrorist agent Carrie Mathison in TV show Homeland. The character has earned her Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations this season and US President Barack Obama is a noted fan of the series.
The actress and her husband were overwhelmed when they met the politician at the White House Correspondents' dinner last year and had to take steps to calm their nerves.
"I said, 'I'm Claire Danes,' and he said, 'Oh, you're a fine actress.' And I said, 'You're a fine president!' And he said, 'Oh, you're a finer actress than I am president.' I didn't have any retort," she laughed. "Hugh and I went immediately to the bar and had a big shot of vodka."
