Steve Carell’s fake tan left a “trail of golden-brown” on the set of his new movie.

The actor plays an eccentric magician in comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.

For his role, the funny man donned a blonde wig and slapped on a daily helping of bronzing lotion, which made a bit of a mess.

“I did get a fake tan! And what dawned on me, was that I was getting a head-to-toe tan every day. You don’t see anything but my face and my chest, so I don’t know why every part of my body had to be tanned,” he laughed to Australian radio show hosts Kyle and Jackie O.

“The bottoms of your feet, they just never look the same [as the rest]! And you leave a trail of golden-brown everywhere you go.”

The film even includes a cameo from famous illusionist David Copperfield.

Steve says the legendary conjuror enjoyed his part so much that he kept turning up to shoots.

“He shot his cameo but then every day that we were in town in Las Vegas shooting, he was there,” Steve marvelled.

“That guy’s a legend, he is David Copperfield! He made everything disappear; he made the Statue of Liberty disappear. If you have something, he can make it disappear.”

The 50-year-old next makes an appearance in drama Foxcatcher, alongside Channing Tatum.

The film is a departure from his usual hilarious movies, such as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

“That’s a pretty dark movie; it’s a true story about a killer. That is not a comedy, no,” he revealed.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone hits cinemas this month, while Foxcatcher is slated to debut sometime this year.
