(Cover) - EN Movies - Natalie Portman has joined the cast of the big screen adaptation of Macbeth.
The Black Swan actress will take on the role of Lady Macbeth in the re-imagined version of the William Shakespeare’s classic play, according to Screen Daily.
The tragedy, about a murderous Scottish lord, was first performed in 1611.
Michael Fassbender was revealed to have signed on this week to the production.
The actor also co-stars with Natalie on the Untitled Terrence Malick Project, a forthcoming drama about a love triangle that unfolds under the backdrop of the Texas music scene.
The Macbeth screenplay is being adapted by Todd Louiso and Jacob Koskoff and will reportedly take “a visceral approach to the story including significant battle scenes”.
It will also take place in the 11th century, according to the website.
Macbeth will be directed by Justin Kurzel.
Further casting details have yet to be released.
The film is scheduled to begin lensing later this year.
Natalie has several films already slated for release in 2013. The actress will star in Terrence Malick drama Knight of Cups with Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett, in addition to the director’s as yet untitled project with Michael.
She will also feature in Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World, starring Chris Hemsworth in the title role.
Natalie is currently filming Jane Got a Gun. The Gavin O'Connor action drama is scheduled for a 2014 release.
