Anne Hathaway will star in and produce The Lifeboat.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actress is attached to the film version of Charlotte Rogan's novel.

It will be her second production role, following her work on drama Song One, which is due for release next year.
The Lifeboat tells the story of Grace Winter, who stands trial for murder in 1914.

Following a ship accident, she is thrust onto a lifeboat that is filled to maximum capacity.

The widowed Grace and her fellow passengers have to make some tough decisions in their three months at sea, making it a tale of moral complexity.

William Broyles Jr., who worked on Jarhead and Apollo 13, will write the script.

Anne will be helped on production by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Liza Chasin of Working Title, Film 360's Suzan Bymel and Ben Forkner.

There is currently no director for the project.

Anne has had a successful past year, starring as Fantine in musical hit Les Misérables.

The role garnered the star her first Academy Award for best supporting actress, along with a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

As well as working on Song One, she can be seen in upcoming Christopher Nolan release Interstellar and she also voices Jewel in kids' movie Rio 2.
