Ridley Scott is on board to direct the Prometheus sequel.

There were rumours of an “Untitled Ridley Scott Project” for months, and now The Wrap confirms the project is Prometheus 2.

Veteran screenwriter Michael Green, who collaborated with Ridley on the Blade Runner reboot, is also reportedly working on the project.

Prometheus was written as an unofficial prequel to 1979 hit movie Alien, and the new film will apparently be much more “alien-y”.

Ridley has talked about how he didn’t rely on CGI in the original 2012 film. According to the acclaimed director, prioritising special effects over a strong story is the easiest way to go over budget on a production.

“We had the right budget, but I didn’t have all the money in the world and I kind of wanted to do it on budget, that’s what I do, and also I kind of like to build sets if I can,” he told Screen Rant.

Ridley explained sets require a greater level of discipline and creativity from everyone involved.

The 76-year-old believes in mapping everything out as much as possible so there are no unpleasant surprises.

“If you can build sets and you know exactly how much you need, it’s much cheaper than saying ‘I don’t know what I’m going to do in this scene, but I just want a load of green screen out there and we will try and put something there later…’ That’s f**king expensive. That’s how these films go millions of dollars over budget, because they’ve got no target,” he said.

Production on Prometheus 2 is scheduled to get underway this fall.
