Hilary Swank has re-evaluated her life now she's 40.
The Oscar-winning star reached the landmark age on July 30. While many in her position worry about growing older, the actress used it as a time to think carefully about what she wants from her life.
"I've been really excited about entering this new decade of my life for quite some time. It's been a great time of reflection for me of what's important and re-evaluating my priorities. This new decade it about getting back to the basics, my roots," she explained to British magazine Hello!
Hilary threw a big party for 40 of her closest friends and family, all of whom she's spent special moments with. There was a lot of food and dancing at the bash, which was held at the Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort in California, and she went to great lengths to ensure everyone had fun. This included arranging for dancing teachers to come in and give some lessons.
"I am by no means an expert, but I do love to dance," she said. "I even brought my dancing shoes with me and changed out of my heels so I could fully get my groove on. I thought line-dancing lessons would get everyone in the mood and shake off the nerves to continue dancing into the night."
Hilary has spent a lot of time reminiscing about her life of late. She's achieved great success professionally and is happy in her personal life with her boyfriend Laurent Fleury, although sometimes it's all too much for her to really understand.
"You know, I've known that I wanted to act since I was eight years old. I think we all dream of what life will be for us as we grow older but there's a famous saying that goes, 'Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.' While some of the details of my life may look differently than I imagined when I was growing up, when I step back and evaluate the bigger meaning of life, it's more than I could have imagined," she gushed.
