Tom Hardy doesn't think Charlize Theron was really intimated by him.

The British actor stars alongside stunning Charlize in Mad Max: Fury Road. While shooting it was reported that the pair had clashed, with Charlize talking about the feud to American Esquire.

However, Tom says any notion that she was scared of him is simply not true.

"[Do I think my intensity can be off-putting?] Possibly, but I don't think so with Charlize. I don't think that was the case," he mused to Details magazine. "Because Charlize is an intense woman. Very intense, actually. In a good way. I mean, look at her in Monster - that's not somebody walking in the park. You don't just summon up that kind of authenticity without bringing a tremendous wealth of artistic ability. She's a very serious actor. So I don't see why she would ever be intimidated by me or in any way feel frightened. I think that was more... b*****ks."

Since his break out role in 2008's Bronson, Tom has become one of the most bankable names in cinema.

While promotion is part and parcel of the job, the 37-year-old still isn't comfortable with all the media attention.

"I'm wary of press. I wear my heart on my sleeve. I have to be very careful, because ultimately you're doing press to promote films, not a sense of self. Who I am makes no difference. To quote [Batman's] Bane: 'No one cared who I was until I put on the mask.'

"It doesn't matter where I came from or what I do. All you need to know is that I don't commit crimes, and I don't kill children. I'm actually quite safe, and I have a family that I care about, and I'm open - I'm open to having a conversation about pretty much anything in the world, and I want to go down to the shop and get my milk, come back, be part of the human race. That's it," he said.
