Dylan O'Brien is horrified that Kaya Scodelario has likened smooching him to kissing a brother.

The two stars appear in the Maze Runner franchise together, with the latest instalment, The Scorch Trials, due out later this year. Although romance isn't the over-riding theme of the movies, the pair do share a tender scene and when a reporter told Dylan they'd just spoken to Kaya about it he was desperate for the lowdown.

"Did you really' How did it go' What was the report card'" he asked ScreenRant.com, and was told it was like kissing her brother. "Oh, nice. Cool. Yeah. That’s like the worst review you can get. It was like kissing my blood relative, it was interesting."

Dylan didn't see the intimate moment that way, although after reflecting he can see what his co-star was getting at. For him, the problem was trying to stay in the moment when there was so much going on around him.

"No, it’s not like kissing your sister because she’s not my sister but she’s my good friend," he said. "Kissing on screen is just... funny enough you’re acting so you’re distracted by that more than anything. At least I am. I’m actually always coming away from those things going like, 'I wonder how I kissed just now.' Because I have no idea, I’m just thinking about what’s happening. It was more of that. I wasn’t like... weird."

The film franchise is based on the novels by James Dashner and is a post-apocalyptic science fiction story, with the first seeing a group trying to escape a maze. In the latest movie, the group face new challenges in an arid landscape and Dylan has said so much goes on its like five films in one.

There are some stunts too, with the star doing a lot of them himself to make them believable. Despite the talk of the kissing scene, this isn't the focus of the film either. That is one of the reasons why Dylan wanted to be involved, as he likes that the storyline isn't all about relationships.

"Everything I love about this story line is that it’s sort of so unromantic and that’s what makes it so romantic. There really is no romance going on. There’s kind of just something there, connections there for the audience to root for and I think that’s stronger without just throwing it in your face," he said.
