One of the most memorable, uplifting and beautiful stories of recent years, MUM’S LIST is a romance for all ages. Now a feature film, the true story of a profound, unstoppable and undying love is based on the best-selling book by St John (Singe) Greene, published by Penguin Books in the United Kingdom in 2012.
Written and directed by Niall Johnson (“White Noise”; ”Keeping Mum”), it is the story of Singe and Kate, a couple from North Somerset, whose lives were turned upside down when Kate was diagnosed with an incurable breast cancer. Over her last few days, she created her list: writing her thoughts and memories down, to help the man she loved create the best life possible for their two sons, after she was gone.
Produced by Nick Hamson (“Premonition”; “St George’s Day”) and Studio Soho Films, MUM’S LIST stars Rafe Spall, Emilia Fox, Elaine Cassidy and William and Matthew Stagg. The executive producers are Gareth Jones, who is coordinating UK and international sales for the film, Chris Wood, Niall Johnson and Sarah Weatherstone and the key production talent includes director of photography Eben Bolter, editor Robin Sales, production designer Kiera Tudway, costume designers Vicki Russell and Rebecca Duncan, Hair and Make-up designer Robert Frampton and casting director Gillian Hawser. Principal photography began on Tuesday, October 6th in Clevedon, North Somerset, with the shoot extending to Bristol and the Devon coast.
Commenting on this announcement, producer Nick Hamson said, "We’re all incredibly proud to be involved and associated with this very special film, in honour of Kate, Singe and their families, who have all been tremendously supportive in bringing this touching and heartfelt story to the screen.”
Director Niall Johnson, who lives with his family in the same town as the Greenes, said “Kate and Singe’s story is one I witnessed at close quarters. It touched the community in a way that only such a tragedy can; and, through Singe’s book, it has touched people worldwide. It cuts to the quick of what it means to live and love, no matter who or where you are. To have the opportunity to adapt Kate’s story, and then to be working with such committed and invested artists as Emilia and Rafe in bringing it to the screen, is an immense privilege. It goes beyond a passion piece to something even more personal.”
The book has been a massive hit around the world. In the UK, it entered at No 1 in the Amazon charts, selling over 100,000 copies in just 2 months. In Germany it made the top 20 and in the US, under the title MOM’S LIST the hard back edition reached the top 25. With over 20 rights deals now sold in 14 territories including, Korea, Portugal, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, China, Poland, Slovakia, Holland and Czech Republic, the book continues to thrive.
