Hugh Grant likes to get in the mood for dancing with lots of vodka.

The 55-year-old self-confessed perfectionist admits he hates dancing, and it takes a lot for him to be in the mood.

He even hated performing the dance scene in the 2003 romantic comedy Love Actually, but for new movie Florence Foster Jenkins, the actor prepared more for the dance scenes than on any other movie.

"I dreaded the dance scene in Love Actually more than having my teeth extracted. And you know, the thing is, you gotta be in the mood for dancing. You know, it takes me quite a lot of vodka before I really want to, or if I'm alone at home with no one around, I like a bit of a dance sometimes in my pants," he smiled to CBS News, agreeing his moves were "very much" like Tom Cruise's character in his iconic dance scene from 1983's Risky Business.

The About a Boy star, had intensive dance training for his starring role opposite Meryl Streep, who plays a tone deaf New York opera singer that achieves fame because of her lack of singing skills. Hugh takes on the role of her the partner, manager and loyal enabler. St. Clair Bayfield.

Despite his lack of enthusiasm for dancing, Hugh explains he's something of a perfectionist, and drives film crews mad with his demands.

"Yes. I've driven people mad on films that I've made - I want more takes, I want to try new lines. Then I want to interfere in the editing process and I want to interfere in the advertising process, everything, everything. Pretty much Barbra Streisand in trousers, I am!," he laughed.

Aside from being attracted to the complexity of the role of St.Clair, saying yes to the Stephen Frears film was made easy once Hugh realised Meryl was on board.

Florence Foster Jenkins opens in the U.S. on 12 August (16).
