Mia Goth’s naivety helped her ace her audition for Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac: Vol. II.

The now 23-year-old auditioned for the role at 18, and won the part in the boundary pushing movie about a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac who recounts her erotic experiences to the man who saved her after a beating.

Mia wasn’t in the first instalment, but became a part of number two.

“(Auditioning for Lars) was the best experience I’d ever had,” she told Flaunt magazine. “If I’d have really known what I was walking into, I’d have been overwhelmed. My naivety served me well.”

Mia had just finished studying at a London college when she won the role which thrust her into the limelight. It was on the set that she also met her partner, actor Shia LaBeouf, and the pair unofficially married at a ceremony in Las Vegas in October 2016.

The actress' next film, A Cure for Wellness, co-stars Dane DeHaan and Jason Isaacs, and once again breaks away from the usual Hollywood storyline. The thriller tells the story of an ambitious young executive who’s sent to retrieve his company's CEO from a mysterious wellness centre at a remote location in the Swiss Alps.

Mia plays Hannah, one of the retreats’ patients, who is forced to confront her coming of age during the movie’s runtime.

“I really connected to that,” Mia shared, quickly adding that she’s also “dealing” with owning her womanhood. “I’m quite intimidated by the power and responsibility that being a woman comes with. I find myself having to confront it. I think every woman deals with that and no one ever really feels like they have everything completely sorted out. It’s a process, a journey.”
