(Cover) - EN Movies - Puss in Boots continued to dominate the US box office this weekend.

The family film, a spin-off from the popular Shrek franchise, held on to the top spot with takings of $33 million.

The animation features the voices of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and Zach Galifianakis and has so far raked in $75.5 million in its first two weeks of release.

Brett Ratner’s latest star-studded action adventure, Tower Heist, secured second place. The movie - featuring Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller – made a mediocre debut at US cinemas with $25.1 million.

A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas had to settle for third spot with $13 million.

Spooky thriller Paranormal Activity 3 slipped to fourth position on the charts with takings of $8.5 million. Sci-fi picture In Time, starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried, dropped to fifth place after making $7.7 million.

Dance classic remake Footloose secured sixth spot with $4.5 million – ahead of robot drama Real Steel which took $3.4 million.

Johnny Depp’s latest big screen outing The Rum Diary took just $2.9 million, landing eighth place, while The Ides of March and Moneyball rounded out the top ten with earnings of $2 million and $1.9 million respectively.
