(Cover) - EN Movies - Daniel Craig didn’t have a Swedish accent in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo because it would “get in the way”.
The actor stars as Swedish journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the new thriller.
The film is based on the Millennium trilogy by Swedish author Stieg Larsson. The novels have already been made into movies in the Swedish language.
For the new English language version, Daniel and director David Fincher spent a long time trying to decide what accent his character should have.
“Some people in the film have accents and some don’t. I don’t. I had a long conversation with David about it and said that a lot of Scandinavians speak English perfectly. I’m one of those guys.” he explained in an interview with British publication Time Out.
The film also stars Robin Wright, Christopher Plummer and Rooney Mara.
Daniel was adamant that none of the actors should have an American accent.
“We’ve got Danish people, Swedish people, English people, American people. The only thing that matters, as far as I’m concerned, is that no one sounds American. We sound as European as possible,” he revealed.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is released worldwide from this month.
