Audiences have proven to be eager beavers this weekend as Disney and Pixar’s latest animated sensation, Hoppers, gnawed through the competition to secure the No. 1 spot at the global, UK, and Ireland box offices.
The film’s opening weekend performance has been nothing short of historic. Globally, Hoppers reached an estimated $88 million cume, marking the biggest debut for an original animated feature since Pixar’s own Coco in 2017. In the UK and Ireland, the film dominated the charts, grossing £3.3 million over the three-day weekend, bringing its total to £4.8 million when including previews. This impressive turnout accounted for a staggering 34% of all ticket sales across the region.
A Critical and Audience Triumph
The financial success is mirrored by glowing reviews. Hoppers is currently Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a near-perfect score of 94%. It joins an elite tier of only five Pixar films to ever reach or exceed that benchmark. Audiences are equally enthralled, mirroring that 94% score on the "Popcornmeter," proving that the film's heart and humor are resonating across all generations.
Into the Animal Kingdom
Directed by Daniel Chong (We Bare Bears) and produced by Nicole Paradis Grindle, the film follows Mabel (voiced by Piper Curda), a dedicated animal lover who uses cutting-edge technology to "hop" her consciousness into a lifelike robotic beaver.
Mabel’s journey into the wild leads her to befriend the charismatic King George (voiced by Bobby Moynihan). Together, they must rally the animal kingdom to thwart a looming threat from the smooth-talking local mayor, Jerry Generazzo (voiced by Jon Hamm). The star-studded voice cast also features Meryl Streep, Kathy Najimy, and Dave Franco, all set to a vibrant score by Mark Mothersbaugh.
With its blend of high-concept sci-fi and classic Pixar emotional depth, Hoppers has solidified itself as the first "must-see" cinematic event of 2026.
Hoppers is in cinemas now.
