The Sundance Institute and Picturehouse Cinemas are delighted to announce their plans for the 2022 edition of the Sundance Film Festival: London. The festival will return to Picturehouse Central from 9th-12th June 2022, and the latest edition has a new addition to the senior team with Wendy Mitchell joining as Sundance Film Festival: London Producer.

Mitchell joins for the seventh edition of the festival, following a successful physical film festival in 2021 that opened with Edgar Wright’s exceptional musical documentary The Sparks Brothers. The festival will continue to showcase international and UK premieres direct from the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, as well as championing underrepresented voices and highlighting excellent work from a diverse range of storytellers.

Mitchell will continue her existing freelance portfolio of projects including serving as a contributing editor and Nordic Correspondent for Screen International; Nordic and UK delegate for the San Sebastian International Film Festival; and as a frequent moderator at industry talks, screenings and at festivals including Cannes, Berlinale, Toronto, Rotterdam, IDFA, Edinburgh and Les Arcs. She also served as a moderator for Cannes Marche’s 2021 Producers’ Network. Mitchell replaces the out-going Producer, Mia Bays, who has taken the role of Director at the BFI Film Fund.

Previously, Mitchell was a film programme manager at the British Council, editor of Screen International, editor of The European Film Academy’s Close-Up magazine, staff news editor at Entertainment Weekly and managing editor of IndieWire. She has served as a mentor for EAVE, FirstCut Lab, Pitch Stop, the Danish Film Institute, the Independent Cinema Office and Seattle’s Work In Progress forum. She is also a member of the London Critics’ Circle (Film) and the Alliance of Women Film Journalists.

Clare Binns, Joint Managing Director of Picturehouse Cinemas, says:
“Myself, Sara Frain and the whole senior team are delighted that Wendy Mitchell is joining us as the Sundance Film Festival: London Producer. Her experience, industry know-how is second to none and her love of indie film and her passion for the Sundance ethos shines through. We are sure she will help us make this year's festival one to remember.”

Wendy Mitchell says:
“I’ve attended every edition of Sundance London as a huge fan, I love not just the films they show but the sense of community and creativity and fun they grow each year. So it’s a dream come true to be able to collaborate with the great teams at the Sundance Institute and Picturehouse Cinemas to help deliver the event in 2022. We look forward to thrilling our audience with amazing films, talks and events.”
