Actor Colin Firth would be happy to wear a revealing mankini on the big screen.

The British star is best known for his suave and sophisticated characters in movies such as Kingsman: The Secret Service and A Single Man, but Colin insists a perfectly tailored suit isn't a prerequisite for him taking on a role.

"The suit is the costume, I put it on," he told journalists at a press conference for his new movie Genius at the Berlin International Film Festival, reports Deadline. "If someone wants me to wear a mankini in a film, I'm available... I’m (even) ready to burst out of a cake."

While fans will have to wait and see whether Colin will ever wear the skimpy piece of swimwear made famous by Sacha Baron Cohen's oddball character Borat, the actor has been happy to embrace his silly side in the past, particularly while filming 2008's movie musical Mamma Mia!

In the closing credits, the 55-year-old sported an ABBA-style glittery jumpsuit complete with flared arms and trousers and statement shoulder detail while singing along to classic pop track Waterloo.

His latest role in Genius is a much more serious affair, with Colin playing literary editor Perkins, who forms a life-changing friendship with American novelist Thomas Wolfe, played by Jude Law.

The Oscar winner is buttoned up in a suit once again for the part, but he doesn't find such attire restrictive as an actor.
"You’d be surprised how much variation I can find within the confines of a suit," he added. "I find repression really interesting because I think there’s an awful lot going on inside there. Mystery is fascinating in all art forms.”
