So you may have guessed by now that I love childish comic book style movies. When I went to see Kick ass I was in awe about how much I enjoyed it an it is easily one of the best films of the genre that I have seen hands down. It tells the story of Dave (Kickass) who is a regular teenage boy who like most teenagers loves sci fi, comics and masturbating. After he contemplates super heroes and being a masked vigilante himself he tries to prevent two guys from breaking in to a car. Unfortunately not having any superpowers shows just how difficult that can be for the average Joe. After he gets out of hospital he has very little sensation and has a dulled sense of pain making him more fearless and although not indestructible more likely to win a fight through shear force of will by staying on his feet longer than the other guy( would be villain). This results in a 3 on 1 fight as he tries to defend a guy from three gang members leading to a viral you tube phenomenon and a comic book of his own. Next throw in a 13 year old ( that’s what all the news /controversy has been all about) who swears and kills like a pigmy Ninja on speed and Nicholas cage dressed like Batman, but with far more attitude and you start to realize just why I like this movie soooooooooooooo much. The story then evolves to encompass the 13yr old ( Hit Girl ) and Nicolas Cage (Big Daddy) trying to take revenge on New York’s bad ass drug dealer Family, with Kick Ass caught right in the middle of it all. The film runs fast and true just like the swords and bullets that are thrown and shot liberally throughout the 117 minutes of heart pounding infinitely entertaining movie mayhem. The end is just brilliant, farfetched and entertaining as hell and it will leave, many of its watchers with a feeling of how it would be, to want to be a vigilante.
I KNOW I WOULD LOVE TO BE A SUPER HERO!!!!!!. However I am not very tall and not really that strong, in fact my twin brother used to beat me up every day on the way home from school. I remember how a passer bye tried to stop him and she, the old women passer bye, asked him who he was and why he thought he could throw me in to every bush from school to home. He said and I’m going to use this as my super hero name from now on “I can do it because …. I’m Hard Guy”. (True story!!!)
Overall this is a great movie, excellent fun, full of action and laughs. Look out for jet packs with Gatling guns, Giant microwaves with frogs replaced by humans and a wet suite that would make you sweat like a gorilla in a sauna. I’ll leave you with this thought ……. What super hero name would you have and why? When you know the answer you can use it as your new cool email address. Sorry “Hard Guy” is taken perhaps I should take Ass Kicked too.
