This is the latest offering from Dreamworks and I’m glad to say Shrek is back on form after the disappointing last film. This film has all the fun of the first two films and is enjoyable from start to finish. I laughed out loud more than once and the two six year olds and eight year old with me absolutely loved it.

The story starts with a flashback of Fiona’s parents about to sign away their rights as King and Queen to no other than Rumpelstiltskin. In return for becoming ruler of the land of Far , Far Away he promises to lift Fiona’s curse . However on hearing that Fiona has been rescued by Shrek they refuse to sign and this is when the story begins.

A very bitter Rumplestiltskin comes across Shrek years later and is seeking to try once again to gain the throne. Shrek has married his sweetheart Fiona and has triplets who are celebrating their first birthday. He is fed up with his mundane life and longs for the good old days when his life was his own and people would run away from him screaming! When offered the chance to erase a day from his life in return for one day as the ogre he once was he jumps at the chance. Once the document is signed he finds out that the day that has been erased is the day he was born. The only get out clause is true loves kiss and as Fiona has never met Shrek there follows some great scenes of him trying to make her fall in love with him again.

Donkey has the best lines which are delivered brilliantly by Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas once again makes a great Puss. The genius of this film is that it appeals to both adults and children and therefore it’s a pleasure not a chore to sit through.

Watching it in 3-D adds nothing except pounds to your cinema ticket so if you have a choice(and I’m not sure you will) save your money for the popcorn, sit back and enjoy the ride!
