The original pretty woman turns ugly in this new take on the Disney classic Snow White. Julia Roberts plays the evil stepmother so well it leaves you wondering why she hasn’t played the baddie more often! She delivers some fantastic one liners to her beautiful step daughter Snow (played by Lily Collins) and is so cutting at times it makes you wince.

The story starts the same with a gentle, rich king who reigns over a happy, dancing kingdom remarrying after the death of his wife. The father then dies leaving his daughter at the hands of her soon to become wicked step mother. It turns out she was only interested in his money and squanders away his fortune on extravagant parties leaving the ordinary people of the kingdom in poverty. She has no interest in Snow and forbids her to join in palace life. When Snow sneaks out one day and sees how poverty stricken the people of the town are, she vows to over throw the queen and put things right.

Although the queen is beautiful, she is no match for Snows ever increasing beauty and when a very handsome prince turns up at the palace it is Snow he falls for, not the queen who has her sights set on him.

What follows is a very funny adventure that appeals to all ages as the queen tries to get the prince to fall for her and Snow tries to get him on her side. This is no easy task as the queen has made him drink love potion to ensure she is the object of his affection. Sadly, it’s puppy love she receives! Snow is helped on her mission by the forest dwelling, seven dwarves. Forget your preconceived ideas of singing, cuddly diamond miners because the new guys are arse kicking bandits with attitude and the kids in the audience loved them!

The story, of course, has the fairy tale ending but the ride there is more Alton Towers than Disney!

Fab film.
