Following the huge success of Police Story and Police Story 2, this third instalment once again broke box office records upon its initial release in 1992 and blends Jackie Chan’s unique style of martial arts action with gritty drama and a generous dash of madcap humour. On Blu-ray for the first time in the UK and in a brand new 4K restoration, POLICE STORY 3: SUPERCOP is one hell of a thrill-ride with the most mind-boggling (not to mention dangerous) stunts ever!

Inspector Chan Ka-Kui aka Kevin (Jackie Chan) is the top dog in Hong Kong’s Police Force thanks to his martial arts skills, though his overall methods are not always taken from the golden book of martial arts rules. When his boss, deputy commissioner ‘Uncle’ Bill Wong (Bill Tung) and Commissioner Chen (Philip Chan) send their ‘Supercop’ to Guangzhou on a secret assignment, Kevin has no idea what’s in store for him. Bidding bye-bye to his girlfriend May (Maggie Cheung reprising her role) he’s off to southern China where no-nonsense Interpol director Inspector ‘Jessica’ Yang (Michelle Yeoh) briefs him on his assignment – straight away the jokes keep piling up when Jessica introduces Kevin, who has been given the name Lin Fu Sheng and a fake identity for his assignment, to martial arts students and demands he takes on one of their teachers – of course, it all descends into chaos. After Kevin/ Lin Fu is given details about his mission he knows it won’t be a joyride: Kevin is to infiltrate the organisation of a notorious drug lord named Chaibat (Ken Tsang) and in order to achieve this he first must get close to Chaibat’s henchman Panther (Yuen Wah) who is held in a Chinese prison. Posing as a prisoner himself, Kevin helps Panther in achieving an ultra-daring escape… ultra-daring because we are talking gravity-defying stunts and what have you. All the while, Jessica Yang and her team keep a sharp eye on Kevin. Unaware that the man who helped him escape is an undercover cop, Panther invites Kevin to join his boss’ gang – before that momentous event arrives, however, Panther introduces Kevin to some of the other gang members and assures them that Kevin is trustworthy before they set off to Hong Kong to meet Chaibat.

En route, Panther insists that Kevin introduces him to his family who apparently live in a small village, all part of the lies and the false identity which Kevin needs to uphold if his mission is to be a success. Now he’s really in a pickle because he has no family in any village en route but fear not, our feisty Inspector Jessica is always one step ahead and appears out of nowhere, introduces herself as ‘Ling Fu’s’ sister before inviting the gang back to her humble abode where Deputy Commissioner ‘Uncle’ Bill poses as Ling Fu’s mom… complete with fake breasts (which keep falling to the ground…). After Kevin/Ling Fu bids farewell to his apparent ‘family’ the gang continue on their trip and arrive in Hong Kong where Chaibat welcomes them in his luxurious hide-out before taking them along to a secret meeting in a Thailand where he hopes to strike a deal with some top heroin traffickers. Trust Kevin and Jessica (who has been following the gang with her colleagues) to turn the meeting into an inferno in the truest sense of the word! During a much deserved breather (albeit a short one), Kevin’s girlfriend May and her friend arrive at the same hotel where he and Jessica are staying and that, of course, spells trouble for Kevin who fears that if May discovers him, she will unwittingly blow the undercover operation. Of course this is precisely what happens (after countless gags) and once Panther and Co. realise the true identity of Kevin and his apparent lady friend Miss Jessica, the two find themselves in mortal danger.

Meanwhile, Chaibat’s wife Chen (Josephine Koo) has just been given the death penalty (we don’t find out why) and her husband is eager to free her from the prison van. Not necessarily because he loves her but because Chen happens to know the secret codes to his Swiss bank account and won’t reveal it to him unless she’s freed. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what happens next: Chaibat and his men kidnap the innocent May and blackmail Kevin and Jessica into helping them free Chen… or else. Kevin has no other option than to participate in the operation but of course, we’re talking Supercop! What follows is a jaw-dropping climax involving a high-speed train, a helicopter and some of the most death-defying stunts imaginable…
