The London skyline at night makes for an times impressive background in Jitters writer George Willcox and director Marc Zammit’s new horror thriller. Zammit has an eye for composition and the film for the most part looks impressive.

Detective Collymore (Fabrizio Santino) is a detective just returned to work after a period off. He’s called to investigate the death of a young woman Tiffany (Jessica Impiazzi), which appears to be routine. However interviewing Tiffany’s friend Taylor (Boo Miller), it appears that there was far more going on in her personal and professional life.

Collymore and colleague Harding (Anto Sharp), the latter reluctantly get pulled into a complicated plot of online gaming, AI, corporate greed and development and a nasty game called Jitters (personified by a clown played by Daniel Jordan) which lures players into games and challenges where they face themselves at their weakest.

Jitters has a complicated plot that is not helped by the AI/IT tech heavy jargon that granted is integral to the story. This may not be a problem for some and possibly even a bonus. But for the layman its tiring.

As alluded to the film looks good and what budget they had was used well. The film does suffer in the character department as none of them are that sympathetic. There is also an obvious attempt to court the American market which I’ll leave for those audiences to pass judgement on.

The incursion of AI into almost every aspect of daily life is a subject that must be investigated and Jitters, has a go. But however worthy the subject, the main issue is that it is not very engaging and at times dull. Another matter is using a scary/evil clown regardless of context is starting to become hackneyed.

Jitters is on UK digital from 16 March and in the US from 17 March 2026 from Reel2Reel Films
