The Last Temptation of Becky

If this is the last we see of Becky (Lulu Wilson) then she’s out with an unchallenging ultra-violent watch that takes her back to the beginning.

A sting goes wrong that ends up with the target getting his head mashed up and the point of the exercise destroyed. Becky is put on a warning and posted to New York. Meanwhile the film handbrakes turn to the first film, the key, and Nazis.

In comes General Wilhelm Reuss (Neil Patrick Harris) who is in the final stages of a master plan to create the 4th Reich. With his headquarters at what’s left of Hitler’s Wolf’s Lair in Poland, his strange family and mad Dr Metzger (James Urbaniak) have been quietly building an online network of Nazi sympathisers throughout the world. His master plan isn’t that difficult to work out once the requirements of the operation are revealed.

The CIA have cottoned on to this and assign Becky to go to Poland, undercover, with an array of Bondish gadgets. Posing as an American traveller Becky, she checks in at a hotel nearby. Here she meets the Reuss family who are garbed in traditional German costume. The key fob is the shape of WW II German hand-grenade and there’s a cardboard cutout of Hitler in the lobby thus Becky knows she is in the right place.

Writers Matt Angel, Suzanne Coote and director Jenn Wexler script and direction are for the most biased towards Becky and her bouts of violence. There are however some slips of satire as when Becky asks Reuss’s daughter Luisa (Aoife Hughes) are having a sword fight and Beckys asks her if she learned to fight, in a Nazi Youth camp? Yes, she replies in Mississippi.

Other than a few drops like that the general impression is that Becky is all but unkillable, until the final act. That hasn’t gone unnoticed by the CIA and sent her there knowing that she would at some point lose it and go completely off-piste.
