Bronson is the latest film from Nicolas Winding Refn (responsible for the impressive Pusher trilogy) and is a brutal biopic of Charles Bronson, a famous British criminal currently in a maximum security incarceration in
Tom Hardy who plays the main role transforms Bronson's story into a bizarre cinematic performance art which works. An overload of violence, as may be expected in this genre of film, but perhaps more unsettling is the 'hero-worship' of Bronson - although maybe not unique to filmos familiar with cult classics ranging from Little Caesar to 'Alex' in Clockwork Orange.
Not so much a film about the failings of the prison system, it covers Bronson's psyche, using him as a way to explore the psychological kick that drives certain individuals to violence. Opinion - An engaging film for filmos but strong stomachs are invited.?
