With an impoverished world plunged into a Cold War with a new enemy, Britain's Ministry of Defence is on the brink of developing a game-changing weapon. Lead scientist Vincent McCarthy (Toby Stephens- Die Another Day) provides the answer with his creation, The Machine - an android with unrivalled physical and processing skills.

When a programming glitch causes an early prototype to destroy his lab, McCarthy enlists artificial intelligence expert Ava (Caity Lotz- Mad Men) to help him harness the full potential of a truly conscious fighting machine. This may be a sci fi movie made on a budget but it more than makes up for that with its Orwellian back drop that could be a dark prologue to either Terminator or Blade runner.

Topy Stephens seems underused in movies and it’s good to see him given a chance to lead a well crafted movie. Caity Lotz is excellent and kick ass all at the same time and Denis Lawson revels in his villainous big boss role. Its lack of big budget may hamper it reaching a wide audience but could well become a cult classic sci-fi movie.

Out in DVD and Blu-Ray formats.
